Puchner Castle Hotel**** - Bikal

The village and the Castle are in South-Trans-Danube, the geographical centre of the Szekszárd - Kaposvár - Pécs triangle, at the foot of the Mecsek Hills. Pécs is 50 km,  Budapest is 185 km far from Bikal.

 

The village can be accessed by car which links Bonyhád with Dombóvár, also running through Szászvár.

 

The history of the Castle

Baron Antal Szaniszló Puchner (1779-1852) born in Northern Hungary studied law in Bratislava and then took up a military career. He made a name for himself in the Napoleonic Wars.

 

During the Hungarian War of Independence the general remaining loyal to the emperor turned against the revolutionary government. He fought the Hungarian troops in several battles of the Transylvanian winter campaign of 1849 before his troops were finally forced out of Transylvania by General Bem. He was made eligible to use the title 'Baron' by the Military Marie Theresa Order.

 

The Castle obtained its late historical looks during the renovations which had been completed by 1889. In 1979 the Castle was pronounced as ancient monument.

 

 

How long has the Hotel been operating?

All-round renovations began in 1993 and the four star Castle Hotel was opened in 1996. The Hotel was made even more attractive by establishing a luxurious spa house and an experience bath, medieval style Sport Centre, a grill terrace in the park, three Guest houses, an outdoor pool and the Conference Centre. A playground, a petting zoo and a small lake can be found here as well.

 

Rooms

In the building of the castle there are 19 rooms in the style of the 18th century. The indoor with the chandeliers and the tarnished furniture's reflect period strain. The building, thanks to its unique colours, has a discrete spirit. The ground floor with its blue rooms reflects the cold calmness of aristocracy; the green ones remind us to the spring and summer, while the English style flowery-patterned rooms recall confidential circumstances.

All of the rooms are equipped with phone, mini bar, bathroom, TV, air conditioner and a safe.

 

On the first floor of the cupola-covered Spa House 8 Mediterranean style rooms can be found. There are six standard rooms and 2 suites. Our Guests staying in the Spa House can just take a few steps to enjoy the pampering wellness services.

All rooms of the Spa House are equipped with phone, mini bar, bathroom, TV and air conditioner.

 

In the 3 two-storied Guest houses there are 24 double rooms altogether. These are equipped with phone, mini bar, bathroom, TV and air conditioner.

On each floor there are 4 rooms and there is a living room which is ideal for a meeting of a small group or friends. You can find here a TV, safe and a refrigerator, which may function as mini bar if it is needed. On the downstairs these communal places possess a fireplace as well.

 

There is also a so called French style Manor House available from June 2007. There are 31 rooms on three floors and they are designed differently on each storey.

The ground floor - étage de la romantique: the floor of romanticism where all the rooms have terrace with huge panorama doors.

The first floor - étage de la famille:  designed for families with a unique snug for children and with the special excavations feeling of the walls.

The mansard -  étage de l'amour:  the floor of lovers where the open  bathroom and the 100-year old beams are determinative.

All rooms of the Manor House are equipped with phone, mini bar, bathroom, TV, safe and air conditioner.

In the Castle and in the Manor House internet plugs can be found. An internet cable is available gratis at the reception.

 

Wellness services

Between the shaded trees of the park there is a Spa with panoramic windows. Here you can find pools, jacuzzis and a child pool equipped with various experience-elements. The water of the pools is a 29°C temperature, and it is rich in magnesium, calcium, Flour and Sodium-hydrogen-carbonate.

 

Services of the Spa

• Finnish sauna: traditional sauna which has 80-100 °C air temperature. The humidity is usually low, about 10%.
• Turkish bath: The high humidity containing hot air of the Turkish bath creates especially relaxing climate. The humidity content is 70%-100%, while the temperature is only 50-55 °C.
• Solarium: For the influence of the ultraviolet radiation used in the solarium vitamin D accumulating in the organism and the hormone production is increases.
• Infrared sauna: This is such a deep-heat treatment which regenerates the muscles, the skin and the tissues. It is great for the dethoxication of the organism, helps loosing weight and helps to increase the condition of cellulite.
